Action Agreement

On November 4, 2019, Iran doubled the number of advanced centrifuges it operates. Iran also accumulates uranium at 4.5%; the agreement limits enrichment to 3.67%. [Citation required] On November 5, 2019, Iran`s nuclear chief, Ali Akbar Salehi, announced that Iran would enrich uranium to 5% at Fordov`s fuel enrichment plant, adding that it was capable of enriching uranium to 20% if necessary. [378] During the congressional review period, intense public debate took place in the United States. [205] “Some of the richest and most powerful donors in American politics, those for and against the agreement,” were included in the public debate[206] although the “mega-donors” who opposed the agreement contributed far more money than the supporters of the agreement. [207] From 2010 to early August 2015, the foundations of Sheldon Adelson, Paul Singer and Haim Saban contributed a total of $13 million (at least $7.5 million, at least $2.6 million and at least $2.9 million) to lobby groups opposed to an Iran deal. [207] On the other hand, three groups that defended the agreement received at least $803,000 from the Ploughshares fund, at least $425,000 from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and at least $68,500 from George Soros and his foundation. [207] Other philanthropists and donors supporting an agreement are S. Daniel Abraham, Tim Gill, Norman Lear, Margery Tabankin and Arnold Hiatt.

[206] This is the first time that the UN Security Council has recognized a developing country`s nuclear enrichment programme[134] and supports an agreement signed by several countries under a resolution (UN Security Council Resolution 2231). [134] [136] For the first time in the history of the United Nations, one country – Iran – was able to abolish six UN resolutions against it – 1696, 1737, 1747, 1803, 1835, 1929 — without having had a day of implementation. [134] For the first time, sanctions against Iran have also been lifted. [134] Abbas Milani and Michael McFaul wrote, “Among those who support this agreement, there are moderates in the government, many opposition leaders, a majority of Iranian citizens and many in the Iranian-American diaspora – a disparate group that has rarely agreed on anything.” [349] Within the government, Rohani and Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, who negotiated the agreement, are “now the loudest in defense against Iranian hawks.” [349] Former Presidents Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and Mohammad Khatami, as well as moderates in Parliament, also support the agreement. [349] The agreement is also supported by the most prominent opposition leaders, including Mir-Hossein Mousavi, the 2009 presidential candidate, who was placed under house arrest for his role as leader of the Green Movement. [349] On 20 September 2015, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano travelled with security director Tero Varjoranta to the Parchin missile production plant to seek clarification on the site`s nuclear activities. [365] [366] [367] The next day, Sichano declared himself satisfied with the samples taken by the Iranians themselves and handed over to the IAEA under “established procedures”.
